This is my second year here at Kanto Gakuin and I
teach mostly junior high school students. I really
enjoy seeing the students asking questions and trying
to use new English words they've learned in class.
When they get better they can try their skills in the
English Lounge!
One of the greatest adventures
anyone will ever have is the chance to
walk in another's shoes to see how
and why they live the way they do.
That is why we encourage our
students to Go Global. The
opportunity to experience living in
another country and culture is unique.
My name is Jonathan Hammond and I teach third year students on Thursday
mornings. I usually teach young adults so teaching junior high students is a
refreshing change. The students at KGM are generally enthusiastic about
learning English with some really talented students ( as well as a few native
speakers ). Sothe environment is good for all students to prepare
for a global future. Recently students have been giving short
presentations; I know public speaking is scary sometimes, but the students
are gaining confidence in this important skill.
I'm Jamie Rumble and my hometown is Toronto, Canada. I don't know if any of you have
ever been to Toronto so if you haven't let me tell you a bit about growing up there. Toronto
is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. Walking the hallways of my high
school, it was common to hear English spoken with thick accents. Many of my friends
were from different parts of the world; places like Israel, Jamaica, Morocco, Italy, Iran,
China, Thailand, France, Germany, Russia- the list goes on and on.
My own family is also one of a mix of cultures with my father coming from Holland when he
was a boy to the promise of a better life in the New World. He spoke no English when he
first came and neither did his parents. I hope my students at KGM can also realize that like
my father, and like myself coming to Japan for a new life in 1999, dreams can become
reality through constant, steady effort and an indomitable, positive attitude.

My name is Sean Patterson, originally from
Hamilton, Ontario. I love reading a great deal and
I enjoy writing short stories and poems. I hope to
one day write a novel. I like to spend time with my
young son and my German Shepherd.
I have been teaching English in Japan for more
than fifteen years. I enjoy teaching English and I
hope that I have helped a lot of people realize
their goal of gaining English as an additional
language.
I am convinced that anyone can learn almost
anything if they actually want to do it. It is my
great pleasure to be at KGM now and to help my
many motivated students realize their immense
potential.
"Hi! I'm Patri. I'm from Madrid, Spain, and I really
enjoy teaching at KGM! Not only because the
students are eager to learn English from native
speakers, but also, because we can both share
our culture and experience, and students can learn
more than the language."
